The mission of the Whittemore Public Library is to serve the public and to ensure to all of the people the freedom to read and to freely choose from all sources of information and knowledge. Libraries have existed since the beginning of recorded history and public libraries as we know them today, have grown and developed over the past 150 years. While public libraries perform many functions, they primarily enrich our personal lives, encourage self-education and promote enlightened citizenship.

The Whittemore Public Library strives to provide services that the people of our community want and need. The Whittemore Public Library uses print and electronic technologies to provide access to information for citizens of all ages to meet their educational, cultural and recreational goals. These services are free to everyone. The library is a source of continuing education, entertainment, information, and a cultural center of our community.

Technology Vision Statement: The people of Whittemore and the surrounding community will have convenient access to electronic information resources through proven technology and telecommunications. In the virtual and physical libraries, our role will be to provide value-added products and services which guide and direct patrons to excellent sources of electronic information. Patrons will be assisted as needed by a sufficient number of knowledgeable, trained staff who can help them make the best use of both new and traditional information resources. Staff will be supported by up-to-date technology to ensure quality services that are efficient and cost-effective.

The United States, the leader of nations that cherish political freedom, has accepted the concept that the education of its entire people is necessary for the highest possible levels of our democratic society. The public library is, and always has been, one of the major institutions, which enhances educational opportunity for everyone.
