A visit to Whittemore isn't complete without stopping by our Veterans Memorial. Dedicated during the Quasquicenntenial Celebration in 2003, it's a reverant monument to our men and women, past and present, who have given of themselves for our freedom.
The
six foot tall granite stone is engraved on the face with the ensignia of the branches of the armed forces. On the back, it reads: There are near life sized statues depicting service people silently standing watch over the platform on which the monument sits. Pavers engraved with the names of area service men and women make up the base, and concrete benches donated in memory of loved ones surround the area. If you'd like to purchase a paver, go here. Time Square
Whittemore's "Time Square" is a botanical treasure right in the middle of town. Expertly cared for by Bev and Gene Walker, it grows more beautiful every year. The Farmer's Market is located here between the months of June and October, and for Christmas, it's decorated with old fashioned flair. Walker's Furniture Restoration and Crafts is also located here, so be sure and step inside!
Seims Park
One of Kossuth County's nicest outdoor recreation areas is only a mile and a half south of Whittemore. Great fishing, a new boat dock, camp sites with electric hook-ups, outdoor grills, playground equipment, shelter houses, picnic tables - you name it! If you are looking for a place to spend some vacation time, try Seims Park. The Whittemore Gun Club works hard every year to maintain the area, and constantly upgrade and improve the facilities.
